Watching haikyuu evokes me to think about growth.
In most shounen anime, you can see character development as time passes. Characters always evolve from their normal self to newer and stronger self.
Personal growth is also important for a person. For a person to grow, he/she needs to recognize himself/herself and continually develop to reach his/her full potential.
The following are lines from haikyuu.
“Is the baby crow about to evolve? And will that be a blessing or a curse for the team? Though in the end, those who do not want to change will not evolve. If that is what you wish for, even if you are the star of the court, the hero, or the ace that brings forth the victory, you need to greedily proclaim that you are indeed the best.”
“Just because it’s effective, that doesn’t mean a player will automatically want to do it. There’s no guarantee that the weapon that worked first will continue working until the end. Keep moving forward. Keep going. If they adjust to me, I just have to adjust in turn. Whoever stops adjusting won’t be able to continue forward.”
“I will not be able to keep up if I’m not able to keep doing new things.”
“The best thing we can do is to make sure that we don’t stop thinking and to make sure that we keep searching what’s best for us. Don’t you think?”
“Skills and talents aren’t meant to be had. They’re meant to be shown. When you go up against the world, make sure you go berserk.”
“To enjoy competitive activities, you need to be good with the absolute pride and confidence of being the ace.”
“Join a strong team. Strong guys and interesting guys gather in a strong environment. And if you become stronger, you’ll be able to go up against various people. I’m sure that they will make you stronger.”
“A good rival is hard to find.”
“Whether you’re on the same team or not, the tension you feel as rivals is essential for growth.”
“Someone who can’t see the opponent standing right in front of him, can not defeat the opponent that lies beyond.”
“Not being able to back down and fighting is normal.”
Well, haikyuu is, after all, an anime where characters are very greedy for growth. By watching them, a fire is lit under me.
I am also a person who enjoys competitive activities. Compare to my younger self, I think I am nothing now. My younger self participated in the Asia-level programming contest two times (well, my team’s rank was low and Thai or Vietnam team always took championship), CTF contest one time (middle rank), Startup competition one time (no prize), Makeaton one time (no prize), chess competition two times (always lost at quarter-final), table tennis competition (total noob), and dota 2 competition (lul). Well, the younger me was at least a failure with a fighting spirit. And, she was always searching and looking forwards to new things. The current me had forgotten those feelings. I start to long for a peaceful and stable life.
I need personal growth. Thinking and searching, trying new things, adjusting, strong rivals, and a strong environment is essential for evolving. Currently, I have none of them. I want to meet with strong people who are very greedy for their growth that just by looking at them can light a fire under me.
Also a line from haikyuu, “Being weak means that there is room to grow.” Well, I still have a lot of rooms to grow. Instead of a strong person having a hard time finding room to grow, having many rooms to grow is good news after all.
Is my will to evolve dead? I think “not yet”. Well, the will is there but the lazy ass here is very hard to change.
Here is a question. “Every morning, after the eyes are opened, what are people doing?”
Anyway, I love haikyuu very much.
